Corn Gluten Meal is the protein fraction of the corn extracted in the wet milling process and is used as an animal feed. It contains approximately 10% nitrogen by weight which makes it a good fertilizer for flowers, turfs, vegetables, shrubs and trees. For weed control C.G.M. inhibits the root formation of seeds after they sprout causing the annual grass and leafy plants to never grow into a nuisance. Apply 20 lbs per 1000 sq. ft. 1 to 3 weeks before weed seeds are expected to sprout. Rake in slightly on bare soil or apply directly over lawn grass. Water enough to make the nuisance weed seeds sprout. Then let the soil dry for a week or more. If continually kept wet, some seeds may be able to develop roots anyway. In vegetable and flower gardens apply only after your plants have developed roots.
